Upstate Independents Moving to the Linda View Map
On Tuesday, May 6th 2008, Upstate Independents, the largest and oldest independent filmmaker society in Upstate New York, will hold the first meeting at its new location, The Linda: WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio in Albany. After building a base at Hudson Valley Community College’s Bulmer Auditorium for the past four years, UI continues its mission to encourage independent film in the Capital Region and beyond at the Linda.
"WAMC has always been a standard bearer for independence and a supporter of the local arts scene," says WAMC's President and CEO, Alan Chartock. "We value our relationship with Upstate Independents and welcome them to their new home at The Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio."
“This move is a great opportunity to be part of WAMC’s commitment to independent film,” said Marco Leavitt, president of Upstate Independents. “HVCC has been great, but the Linda offers so much in terms of visibility and shared vision. We’re excited at the prospect of partnering with WAMC on future events and programming.”
At U.I.’s first meeting in the new location, filmmakers Todd Giglio and Christopher Springer will speak about their feature film Drawing With Chalk. Giglio and Springer will show clips from the film, which tells the story of two musicians as the demands of adulthood interfere with their dreams of being rock stars.
“It’s a midlife coming of age story,” said Springer, of the production, which wraps next month after shooting in White Plains and Rochester.
Also speaking at the meeting will be Sande Shurin, an internationally renowned acting coach from Woodstock, who has developed the acting technique Transformational Acting.
The event is free and open to the public. The Linda is located on 339 Central Avenue, Albany, NY. Beginning in May, Upstate Independents will meet on the first Tuesday of every month at the Linda at 6:30 p.m.
